Submission guidelines
software.gallery is a gallery of independent software for Mac, iPhone, iPad and the web. Anyone can submit an app, and a person reviews every one against these guidelines before it goes up.
What belongs here
- Software from independent makers and small studios.
- Apps people can use today: on the App Store, the Mac App Store, the web, or as a download from the maker’s own site.
- Apps with a real icon and real screenshots. We never make up either.
What a reviewer asks
A person tries every app before it goes up, and asks:
- Is it good, or at least interesting?
- Does it work, and does it do what its page says?
- Is it made with care?
- Would we tell a friend about it?
- Does it add something the gallery doesn’t have yet?
What doesn’t go up
- Apps that aren’t out yet: a waitlist, a pre-order or a closed beta. Send it again once people can use it.
- Software from large companies, and copies of another app’s name, icon or idea.
- Links that don’t lead to the app itself, like a news story or a social post about it.
- Anything the acceptable use policy rules out.
What happens after you submit
Paste a link to the app on the App Store, the Mac App Store or its own website. We fill in the name, icon, description and screenshots from the listing or the site, and you check them.
Then confirm your email. Nothing reaches the review queue until you do, and the link works for 7 days. There’s no account to make.
A person reviews it and may tidy the details. We email you once when it’s approved, with a link to its page, or when it’s declined, with the reason.
If you made it
Say so when you submit. We keep that note so the listing can be yours to manage later; there are no maker accounts yet.
Every app links out to where it lives. Nothing is sold here, and nobody pays for a place in the gallery.
Changes and takedowns
If something on an app’s page is out of date, or you made an app and want it taken down, write to mail@software.gallery and a person will sort it out.
