Draft for review
A plain-language draft for the founder and counsel to review. It may change before it is final, and it isn’t legal advice.
This is what software.gallery collects about you, why, who else sees it, and how to change or delete it. Browsing needs no account, and we don’t sell data or run ads.
When you browse
- Pages viewed, searches and clicks out to an app. We record these with a hash of your IP address and browser that changes every day, not the address itself, and keep only the origin and path of the page that sent you.
- Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies.
When you submit an app
- The link you paste and the details you check or edit: the app’s name, maker, descriptions, category, platforms, price and screenshots.
- Your email address, and when you confirmed it.
- Whether you made the app.
- A hash of your IP address, to limit how many submissions come from one place.
Your email and whether you made the app are seen only by the people who review submissions. They never show in the gallery.
Data about apps
To fill in an app’s page we read public sources about the app, not about you: its App Store listing through Apple’s public lookup, and its own web page (title, description, icons and preview image). For web apps we take screenshots of the page. The fetcher page says what it reads and when.
Why
- To review your submission and tell you what happened. We send one email to confirm your address, then one when the app is reviewed. Nothing else: no newsletter, no marketing.
- To prevent spam and abuse, with limits on how often anyone can submit.
- To see what people find useful, in totals, never who you are.
Who else sees it
These companies process data for us:
- Neon: our database.
- Vercel: hosts the site, stores icons and screenshots, and runs Web Analytics.
- Resend: sends our email.
When you follow a link out to the App Store or a maker’s site, their own privacy policy applies there.
Cookies
software.gallery sets no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The people who run the gallery sign in, and that sets a sign-in cookie for them.
How long we keep it
A submission whose email isn’t confirmed expires after 7 days. We keep submissions, and the email on them, while the app is under review or in the gallery, so we can tell you about it. Ask us and we delete yours.
The daily hashes behind the site’s statistics can’t be linked from one day to the next.
Your choices
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, except what the law makes us keep. Write to mail@software.gallery.
software.gallery isn’t meant for children, and we don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
